Columnist #1: Ramzy Baroud
According to AlJazeera, Baroud has been writing about the Middle East for over 20 years. He often focuses on the conflict between Israel and Palestine and news concerning just Palestine and the Gaza Strip. Based on the articles I have seen written by Mr. Baroud I can see he mostly values news having to do with Palestine and Israel. He has also written articles that revolve around islamophobia like the one, “White men kill, brown men found guilty” which focuses on how stereotypes against Muslims is causing them to be accused for crimes they didn’t commit. The occasions that most of his articles are written around has to do with how the partitioning of Palestine and creating Israel from it has caused conflict and an alienation of the Palestinian people. He focuses that event in his writing by describing what Palestinians are dealing with Israeli occupation. His opinion pieces are directed to an audience who is interested in middle eastern politics, the Gaza Strip conflict, Palestinian And Israeli conflict, and the life of Palestinians living in Palestine. The purpose of his pieces are to give his perspective on what is going on in Palestine to their movements going on there and there are also his perspective on how U.S. Policies have affected the Middle East. The subject of the authors writing focus is almost always centered around Palestine. He usually has a tone of hopefulness when he’s discussing Palestinians standing up against the odds. He shows that emotion in quotes like, “We must learn from young Palestinians who stand bare-chested before snipers and murderers with only their chants for freedom and their faith in certain victory.” A contradicting tone of disgust can be heard from articles written about Israel. For example, “How Israel’s violent birth destroyed Palestine,” is one of his articles he’s written that deals with the founding of Israel 70 years ago.
