History of Al Jazeera:
Founded November 1st, 1996 Al Jazeera was a news network funded by the government of Qatar which is located in the Persian Gulf. It came about after BBC introduced an Arabic language version of their network. They gained world wide attention for their live coverage of the war in Afghanistan. They've been accused of being a station that the government of Qatar could use to spread their propaganda, but the network insists that although they are funded by the government of Qatar they produce their own independent editorials.
